Agencyport Software Accelerates Open Standards Development for P&C Industry

ORLANDO, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–

Agencyport Software, a long-time contributor to the development of ACORD
standards in the Property Casualty insurance and reinsurance industry
and a leader in the adoption of these ACORD standards through its
various software products, announced today a significant contribution of
data mappings to the Association for Cooperative Operations Research and
Development (ACORD), the leading non-profit standards development
organization serving the insurance and financial services industries.
Specifically, Agencyport has contributed its proven AL3 to ACORD XML
mappings to ACORD to use in its efforts to provide mappings from ACORD’s
eForms to its other standards as well as additional mapping initiatives.

ACORD’s AL3 (“Automation Level 3”) standards were first created in the
1980s so that carriers and independent agents could be updated more
quickly by carrier data sent nightly via download from their carriers.
This led to the significant implementation of AL3 batch download, and
later to real-time processing using ACORD’s XML V1.x standard. In 2003,
shortly after it was founded, Agencyport brought AgencyConnect® to
market, an enterprise software solution that enables carriers to receive
inbound AL3 and XML messages from independent agents and integrate a
single, normalized XML feed to carriers’ rating and policy systems to
handle upload, bridging and real-time rating.

“ACORD standards have been incredibly important to the insurance
industry since their inception and for us in North America and in
Europe, these standards help our customers do business with tens of
thousands of agents, brokers and other trading partners every day,” said
Steve Hauck, co-founder and co-CEO of Agencyport Software. “The data
mappings that have worked so well for us and our customers will help
ACORD and its members by providing valuable data mappings used in the
implementation of its standards. We are proud of the work we have done
and the implementations of ACORD standards with our products
AgencyPortal®, AgencyConnect® and most recently Turnstile. We feel that
by ACORD having our interpretation of the standards, it can continue to
work with other standards implementers to promote collaboration and
achieve consistent implementations of its Property and Casualty
standard. We are honored to partner with ACORD so that the market can
more quickly and more easily utilize consistent standards in such
products as eForms, real-time implementations, as well as other
initiatives.”

Agencyport provided its AL3 to XML mappings for more than 10 lines of
business, including Homeowners, Personal Auto, Dwelling Fire, Personal
Umbrella, Personal Package, Business Owners, Commercial Auto, Commercial
Property, General Liability, Commercial Umbrella, and Commercial Package.

“We are very excited to receive this contribution from Agencyport
Software. They have been a long-time supporter and implementer of ACORD
Standards and this action shows their dedication to advancing
standardization across the industry. They also reinforce the importance
to all stakeholders that standards are not standards unless they are
implemented consistently,” said Marcia Berner, Director of
Implementation Services at ACORD. “We hope that Agencyport’s example
spurs others to share in the movement. After all, it’s all about
enabling automated transactions in real-time and making it more
conducive to all implementers to do the same. We thank them for feeling
so passionate about the use of Standards in the insurance marketplace
and in realizing the benefits that true Standards implementations will
have on the industry as a whole.”

GMC Software Technology Hosts Briefing on Effective Multichannel Communication for Insurance Industry

BOSTON APPENZELL, Switzerland–(BUSINESS WIRE)–

GMC Software Technology, a provider of customer communications and
output management solutions and ACORD associate member, today announced
its post-briefing report on effective multichannel communication in the
insurance industry. The briefing took place at the 2012 ACORD LOMA
Insurance Systems Forum on May 15,2012 with the feature
presentation delivered by Kimberly Harris-Ferrante, vice president and
distinguished analyst at Gartner. The briefing presented the key areas
that insurers should focus on to enhance the customer experience and
highlighted how insurers can communicate across multiple channels while
optimizing processes for increased business efficiency and agility.

As hosts of the briefing, GMC Software Technology emphasized the
importance of the topics discussed. The company is also exhibiting at
the ACORD LOMA Insurance Systems Forum, in booth #1110, to showcase a
range of applications that can help insurers address some of the key
topics presented at the briefing. These topics include:

Evolution from Print to Multichannel Communications

As customer touchpoints have expanded across numerous channels (email,
mobile, web, social, etc.), insurers have a great opportunity to utilize
these channels to engage prospects and customers. However, older legacy
systems can hold insurers back. To take advantage of this opportunity,
insurers must face the challenge of leveraging their existing legacy
systems to successfully support these new and emerging customer
communication channels.

Channel-centricity Versus Customer-centricity: Using Data More
Effectively and Appropriately Across Channels

Many insurers are channel-centric rather than customer-centric, largely
based on the insurer’s existing infrastructure. But as customers now
rely on many different channels, they expect a consistent communications
experience across all touchpoints. Today, a channel-centric approach
puts insurers at risk of brand inconsistency, customer dissatisfaction
and inefficient processes. The briefing presented how insurers can avoid
these risks by supporting cross-channel integrated communications that
deliver the most relevant message, at the right time, using the
customer’s preferred channel.

Use of Real-time On-demand Technologies

With the availability and accessibility of digital channels, consumers
are increasingly expecting real-time customer service and information.
Insurers should make use of technologies to connect with clients and
support communication creation in real time and on demand. Businesses
also need to improve transaction processing by enabling a single process
and access point for all internal users, brokers and customers along
with real-time, front-end integration with source systems.

Agent Enablement: Improving Agent Performance and Standardizing Agent
Actions

In an increasingly complex marketplace, insurance providers have the
dual task of directly addressing the needs of the policyholders and also
enabling their agents to deliver better service and remain compliant
with legislative and corporate requirements. The briefing expressed that
insurers must improve agent performance and standardize agent actions to
ensure compliance and better customer experiences.

Modernizing Communications and Producing Seamless Customer Experiences

It is common in the industry for complex data structures to remain in
back end systems and in disparate silos across the business where they
provide little value for effective and meaningful customer
communications. By bringing together customer data within these silos,
insurers can engage in intelligent, data-driven communications and
relevant 360-degree customer communications across multiple channels. In
addition, by unifying data across disparate data silos, insurers can
communicate with customers in a more agile and consistent fashion.

Featured Presenter:

Kimberly Harris-Ferrante is vice president and distinguished analyst at
Gartner, Inc,, where she is responsible for monitoring the business and
technology trends within the property and casualty and life insurance
industries. She specializes in strategies and technologies in the global

Software piracy costs record $63.4 billion in 2011: study

Software piracy cost the industry a record $63.4 billion globally in 2011 with emerging economies listed as the main culprits, an annual study said Tuesday.

This was up nearly eight percent from the previous record of $58.8 billion in 2010, the Business Software Alliance (BSA) said in the study.

In the Asia Pacific, which comprises several emerging economies including China, bootleg software usage also cost the industry an all-time high of $21 billion last year, up 12 percent from 2010, BSA said.

Emerging markets had an average piracy rate of 68 percent, far exceeding the 42 percent global average and 24 percent in mature economies, according to the study which is based on a survey of about 15,000 computer users in 33 markets.

These markets account for 82 percent of the global PC market.

“Emerging economies, which in recent years have been the driving force behind PC software piracy, are now decisively outpacing mature markets in their rate of growth,” said the study carried out in January and February.

“They took in 56 percent of the world’s new PC shipments in 2011, and they now account for more than half of all PCs in use,” it added.

“Emerging economies thus continue to account for an overwhelming majority of the global increase in the commercial value of pirated software.”

China was the worst in Asia when it comes to software piracy with almost $9.0 billion worth of computer programmes obtained illegally in 2011, compared to a legal software market of only $2.65 billion.

While the US has the largest pirated market estimated at $9.8 billion, it also has the world’s largest legal software sales valued at over $41 billion, BSA said.

“The thing about the (Asia Pacific) region is that PC growth is booming. PC growth in the region is growing at nine percent but piracy is coming down at one percent annually,” said Roland Chan, BSA’s senior director for regional marketing.

“So governments need to do more to bring down the rate at a faster rate to match the rapid PC growth,” he told AFP.

Washington-based BSA is a non-profit trade body that works for copyright protection and counts among its members some of the world’s biggest technology companies, including Apple, Microsoft, Symantec and Adobe.
